About Rookery Barn Bed & Breakfast

Rookery Barn was built around 1700,during the reign of William and Mary. This fine Grade 2 listed brick and flint building was in agricultural use for 300 years as a threshing barn, and then as home to a herd of dairy cows before its conversion to a quality dwelling in 1998.Owners Tony and Lynda Richardson opened the Bed and Breakfast business in 2007, and before this, they ran a successful restaurant in the West Country followed by an award winning guest house.

The delightful walled, landscaped garden stands next to a pretty wood which is home to many wild birds, including Woodpeckers and Owls.Just beyond stands the impressive Ingham Old Hall, which was a recuperation centre for wounded servicemen in World War One, and a Merchant Navy training school in World War Two.

There are many things to see and do locally, with unspoilt beaches three miles away and the Norfolk Broads even nearer. As boat owners ourselves, we strongly recommend hiring a small motor boat locally to enjoy the unique experience this environment offers, with the abundance of plant and wildlife.

Nature lovers are well catered for, and at Hickling, just over a mile away, can see Cranes,Marsh Harriers, Bittern and Barn Owls, whilst the coastal area is visited each Winter by large flocks of Pink Foot Geese.A colony of Seals is resident at Horsey beach, and whilst the winter is the best time to see them out of the water with their pups, they can be seen at a variety of locations when conditions are right.

Gardening enthusiasts will love East Ruston Vicarage, which is a stunning creation and the fruit of twenty years' work.Further afield, the National Trust properties at Felbrigg and Blickling Halls, and Sheringham Park are well worth visiting. The latter has a spectacular display of Azaleas and Rhododendruns in May and June.

Visitors to Norwich will quickly appreciate why it is one of this country's top retail and cultural centres. It boasts two fine cathedrals and an impressive castle housing a museum with some important paintings.Norwich is easily accessed by park and ride.

Here at Rookery Barn we have plenty of off road parking, and cycles can be locked overnight in the garage.

There are, of course, pubs and restaurants nearby, and we are always pleased to help with reservations.

Breakfast is taken in the Garden Room at separate tables. As ex restauranteurs, we only use the highest quality produce , and all tastes (eg vegetarian) are catered for.Light suppers are available by prior arrangement, and freshly made sandwiches can always be provided.

Please see our website for more details of the quality self contained accommodation and tariff, and if you would like to discuss any aspect of your proposed visit to the Norfolk Broads, please give us a call on 01692 583321.
