It is believed that the name 'Stalham' means "river settlement" and its history in agriculture is recorded as far back as the eleventh century. Historic buildings include the Church of Saint Mary and the seventeenth century Stalham Hall manor house, which is located along the Old Yarmouth Road.
Stalham has a generous array of independent and attractively appointed shops and some nice pubs as well. However, as the 'gateway to the broads', Stalham's proximity to the Norfolk Broads is perhaps its biggest selling point.
