Experts Discuss the Future of the Broads 8th Feb 2007

A group of world experts will meet in Norwich to discuss the future of the Broads and international wetlands. The conference, held at the Assembly House on 15 May, will discuss the challenges of climate change and pollution prevention.

Local scientists and flood defence managers will hear how the Broads can adapt to climate change and rising sea levels, while maintaining a valued wildlife area for the nation. European scientists will then provide their experience of managing similar wetlands in Italy and the Netherlands.

Broads Authority Conservation Officer Andrea Kelly said:
"We are delighted to bring such a wealth of knowledge to Norwich. By sharing the tough challenges that face the Broads we hope to find some solutions."
Speakers at the event include Geoff Phillips from the Environment Agency, Brian Moss from the University of Liverpool, Harry Hosper from the Institute for Inland Water Management and Waste Water Treatment in the Netherlands, and Marten Scheffer, from Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

The event is being organised by the Broads Authority, UEA, King's Lynn Consortium of Internal Drainage Boards and Cranfield University. Interested people are invited to attend at a cost of £20.
