The Broads Green Boat Show 2nd May 2007

Salhouse Broad - Saturday 8 September 11am-4pm

Following the success of the Broads Green Boat Show last year, The Broads Society and the Electric Boat Association are again organising a show in September and are planning that this one will be even bigger and better.

This is the only Green Boat Show in the UK and is being organised to encourage low carbon propulsion for boats - rowing, paddling, pedalling, sailing, electric and biofuel-powered - as well as to promote other aspects of environmentally-friendly design and construction for boats. It will be a show-place for green energy ñ fuel cells, solar panels, wind turbines ñ and for all types of low impact materials and products that encourage responsible use of our waterways.

Salhouse Broad is a beautiful Broad, surrounded by trees, with good quay-heading, moorings and a shelving beach for the launch of small boats such as kayaks, rowing boats and canoes. The Broad is privately owned and the owners are working with the organisers to provide all the necessary facilities for the show.

A marquee will house the static displays and boats on display will be demonstrated and available for trying out on the water. A refreshment tent will be available and there will be a traditional jazz band to help things swing along.

The Broad is situated in the countryside outside Salhouse village and a footpath, about 3/4 miles long, leads from the road to the waterside. Public car parking is available at the road. There will be an hourly ferry service by electric boat from the well-known village of Wroxham, which is about 2 miles up-river from Salhouse. Exhibitorís access to the show site is across farm tracks behind the Broad.

Exhibitors can reserve space in the marquee or by the water and there will be ample outside space for larger exhibits. The charge for commercial exhibitors is £50. There is no charge for voluntary organisations and charities

It promises to be a great day out for those interested in boating and the environment, with fun on the water for children and adults of all ages. The show will encourage interest in developing technologies as well as a showcase for the more traditional forms of boating.
