Owners whose craft have passed a Boat Safety Scheme examination are urged to send in a copy of their certificates to the Broads Authority immediately to avoid an unnecessary visit from a navigation ranger.

After the Broads Authority introduced the Boat Safety Scheme on 1st April it granted several owners of private craft of over 21 sq m, who had to comply with the scheme, a three month exemption period.

With the exemption expiring on Saturday 30 June the Broads Authority navigation rangers will be extra vigilant in ensuring compliance with the scheme.

As the Boat Safety Scheme is run by British Waterways and not the Broads Authority the Authority is not automatically informed when a vessel has passed a BSS inspection. Therefore all owners who have not sent in a copy of their certificate to the Broads Authority should do so immediately.
