Go back in time at Framlingham Castle this summer

This summer, history hungry children will get the chance to become masters of the past, as English Heritage takes them on an exciting journey back through time at a series of interactive events at the enchanting Framlingham Castle in Suffolk.

The weekly ‘Time Travellers Go…’ events, which start on Monday 23 July, allow children to get hands on with history, transporting them back to different eras with an exciting array of characters, from noble lords and gallant knights to beautiful princesses.

This thrilling series kicks off with Time Travellers Go…Knights & Princesses (23 – 27 Jul & 13 – 17 Aug) where children will be transported to a fairy-tale land to become knights or princesses for the day. Visitors are invited to give their toy sword a whirl or put on their prettiest dress, in preparation for a range of exciting medieval activities. Young ones will learn about medieval etiquette, be transformed into noble lords in squire training, and even try on armour in our academy for budding knights and princesses.

At our Time Travellers Go…Medieval (30 Jul – 3 Aug & 20 – 24 Aug) event visitors will be propelled back in history by 500 years! How will they fare? Children will be invited to join us on a journey through the ages to medieval times to find out what life was really like through a range of exhilarating hands-on activities and games.

Visitors will then embark on an enthralling trip through time to discover some of England’s most fascinating facts from the past at our Time Travellers Go…Through the Ages (6 – 10 Aug) event. History will come to life as children take on the roles of legendary characters in our interactive plays. They can also take part in an exciting trail around the castle to learn about the people who once lived there, before ‘having a go’ at being the fool and trying out their skills in our circus workshop.

Lucy Hutchings, events manager for English Heritage in the London and East region, says: “These events are a fun and interactive way for children to get hands on with history. They offer a wide range of engaging activities and captivating historic tales told by colourful costumed characters, helping to bring the past to life. These events are fun for the whole family and offer a truly great British day out!”

Children taking part in the events will also be awarded special Time Travellers Passports in which they can collect stickers as they go. With two stickers, kids can claim their Time Travellers Go… medal and with all of the stickers they become a fully-fledged time traveller and can claim an exciting prize.
