The Reading Festival at Aylsham High

The Reading Festival is back for its third year at Aylsham High School, on Saturday May 2nd 2015. This year our theme is dragons and Vikings. Entry is free for all, with free activities including clay dragon making, jewellery making, rune crafts, and fire breathing dragon models. Our visiting author is Chris d'Lacey, of Last Dragon Chronicles fame. He will he talking to children from 12 until 2pm about his exciting world in which clay dragons come alive to help humans!

There are two workshops taking place at 10am (to be repeated at 2pm) for children aged five and over. These are £3.00 entry per child and will last for 120 minutes. Each is supervised by trained adults:

- First, learn how to train your dragon in a two hour workshop. Choose your dragon classification and skill and make a model, then learn to speak Dragonese and complete the training manual. Finish by naming and registering your dragon in the Naming Ceremony. Children take away a special pack full of dragon fun. Toothless, Hiccup and Eret from How To Train Your Dragon will be available for photos!

- Second, learn how to be a Viking warrior in a two hour workshop. Hear all about Viking lifestyles, construct a longship, make a sword and shield in the forge, then learn about battle tactics and make a shield wall and a hosghead before hearing Viking saga stories about Asgard and Ivan the Boneless who defeated Edmund to conquer East Anglia. Our Viking storytellers will also be breathing fire!

Everyone is welcome. There will be refreshments available for all. Those wishing to take part in a workshop are advised to sign up by messaging our Facebook page or by contacting Jo Bates at [email protected]
