About The Plantation Garden Preservation Trust

The garden is notoriously difficult to find, just one of the reasons that it is known as 'The Secret Garden'.

Unfortunately, we do not have a car park. Why not park at the Black Horse pub, which is just down the road, visit the garden, then perhaps call in at the pub. It is also walking distance from Chapelfield Gardens

Parking is allowed in the Earlham Road bus lane, which is opposite the garden, on Sundays ONLY

Teas served on Sunday afternoons throughout the summer months from 2.30-4.30 p.m. £2.50 incl. cake.

Guided tours

We welcome parties by arrangement and have a small team of knowledgeable guides who provide tours of the garden for which we charge £3 per person, which includes admission. Our minimum charge is £35 - cash or cheques payable to the Plantation Garden Preservation Trust (PGPT).

Tours take approximately 50-60 minutes and provide a history of the garden, bringing you up to date with how the gardens are managed today. You are welcome to stay in the garden as long as you wish or to eat a packed lunch in the garden. The garden is run entirely by volunteers and all the proceeds go towards the gardens upkeep, restoration and development.

There is a wc which is opened for group tours, but teas are only provided on a Sunday afternoon, April - October. We also have a selection of plants and souvenirs for sale. The RC Cathedral Narthex, which is next door, and has a new, purpose built hospitality centre open for refreshments every day until 4 p.m., except Monday. If you are a large group, a light lunch may be booked in advance (contact 01603724381/ [email protected]).

We regret that we have no parking at the garden. The Beeches Hotel is an entirely separate body and their car park is for use of residents only. On Sundays and after 6.30 it is possible to park on Earlham Road or neighbouring residential roads or use the Norwich City car parks.

In the case of those with a disabled parking badge we can exceptionally make space for up to 2 cars in our tight entrance although not on Sundays or Tuesady mornings. Coaches are recommended to decant passengers on the Earlham Road and pick up at a pre- arranged time. If your driver is unfamiliar with the City please ensure s/he has checked coach parking with Norwich City Council.

Talks

Some of our knowledgeable volunteers are available to visit your group, club or organisation and present a talk, along with a Powerpoint presentation. The talk is a mixture of history of the garden and how the gardens are managed by our volunteers today. Talks can be shaped to meet the interests of the club: history, gardening, volunteering etc. Our charge is £50, which includes expenses.
