Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre is a new purpose built outdoor activities centre in Whitlingham, Trowse on the outskirts of Norwich.

The Centre is located in Whitlingham Country Park which has over 280 acres of beautiful countryside and is a perfect spot for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and family outings. We are funded by the Big Lottery Fund, Sport England and the Norfolk County Council. The venue runs courses specialising in Sailing, Windsurfing, Paddlesport, Sculling, Diving and many more water activities. The park has cycle paths, a picnic meadow, and a new visitors centre (currently under construction) with a café, information point and toilet facilities.

Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre is an RYA accredited centre. RYA-The Royal Yachting Association is the national governing body for all sailing activities.

All our sailing activities are run under the guidance of RYA qualified Instructors. Whether it's your first time afloat on one of our introductory sessions or you are progressing through the national schemes, we have something for everyone.


We also offer shore based courses for Day skipper & Coastal skipper. These courses will provide the theoretical knowledge to navigate a yacht at sea. The certificate indicates that the student has understood the theory but has not yet taken a practical course. DSC VHF Radio courses are also available.

Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre offers a wide range of coaching courses. Pre-requisites for coaching awards can be gained through the general programme or through specific courses e.g. BCU Canoe Safety Test.

Sessions may include activities from the following:

• Canoeing
• Kayaking
• Raft building
• Archery
• Climbing
• Abseiling
• Problem solving
• Navigation/orienteering
• Off road biking (skills and journeying)
• Sailing

These may be undertaken at a variety of venues with pick up and drop off point at Whitlingham.
