About Buckenham Marshes

Set in the beautiful Norfolk Broads, Buckenham Marshes is a traditionally managed grazing marsh with large numbers of breeding wading birds, and ducks and geese in winter. The reserve also often boasts the only regular winter flock of bean geese in England (November to February), together with white-fronted geese and up to 10,000 wigeons.

If you are new to birdwatching...
Buckenham Marshes is good for those new to birdwatching in autumn and winter only. Large numbers of wintering birds can be easily viewed from October through to March. Guided walks for beginners are also available in these months.

Buckenham marshes is an ideal place to watch for birds of prey, including barn owls, marsh harriers, kestrels and peregrine falcons. Look out for hares, stoats and Chinese water deer in the surrounding fields.

There are no toilets or visitor facilities at Buckenham Marshes, but there is one viewing hide near the river. Visitor facilities and toilets are available at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen reserve, just 15 minutes walk from Buckenham.

There are a small number of weekend train stops at Buckenham train station, adjacent to Buckenham Marshes. The reserve car park is at the train station and disabled parking is available at the viewing hide.
